Minimalistic “Play Button”
Posted in Photoshop Tutorials on 08.2.09
In today’s tutorial I’m going to show how to create a very minimalistic, but cool looking “Play Button”. You can use it on your software or website. It also can act as “Next Button”.

This is the final result of this tutorial.
Step 1
Start with a 650×650 document(yes, it will be huge button). Select Elliptical Marquee Tool, at the top menu set Style to Fixed Size and make Width – 400px, Height – 400 px. Create a new layer, call it “Button Background” and make a selection at the center of document. Fill it with any color. Go to Layer’s Style and add these settings.
That’s what we got so far.
Step 2
Now we will add a shine effect. By holding CTRL press the “Button Background” layer. Now go to Select-> Modify-> Contract and set 20 px. Now select Elliptical Marquee Tool(make sure your selection style is “Fixed Size” and Width and Height is set to 400px) and by holding ALT delete some of the selection like in picture bellow.
Go to Select->Modify->Smooth and set 30 px. Now create a new layer, call it “Shine Effect” and fill it with #ffffff. Set Layer’s Opacity to 60%.
Step 3
We need only the “Play Sign”. Select a Polygonal Lasso Tool and make a huge triangle at the center of button(Tip: If you want to make a perfect triangle you must hold SHIFT when selecting). Go to Select->Modify->Smooth and set 30 px. Fill it with any color and add these settings.
You can actually play with color of that button, it looks good with green, yellow, red, etc..
